I have a 2023 Lyriq with just under 2,000 miles and the 12V battery i8s died twice ALREADY. Last time was about a month after a full charge, and I hadn't driven it at all. Dealer says that's "expected" if you don't drive often. Is this really normal with Lyriqs, or what?

Your dealer's wrong. It's a widely known software bug, not normal. There's a parasitic draw that kills the 12V even if the main battery is charged. Tell the dealer to apply the official GM fix for the "12 Volt Battery Drain" issue. It's a software update for the serial data gateway module (bulletin N232416980). Don't let them tell you it's your fault.

Why would a nearly new EV like the Lyriq drain the 12V battery that quickly just from sitting, shouldn't there be safeguards in place to prevent that kind of parasitic drain?

Yeah, I ran into the same deal with my 2022 EV. That 12V battery drains quick if you don't roll the wheels or charge it often, the dealer swapped it out for free, but I've learned to keep the car active or it's dead battery city, its kinda annoying but looks like it's just how these rides are sometimes

Yeah you guys get me this is wild for a brand-new Lyriq. EV or not, I don't really think a 12V shouldn't be giving up that fast. I reached out to them and still got no help back.

Go to your dealer and talk to them about it in person. Make sure they check that all the updates have successfully been installed. If your 12v battery is no longer under warranty, you can replace it with an AGM lead acid 12v battery. AGM 12v batteries last longer than regular 12v batteries. The "AGM" stands for Absorbed Glass-Mat. It's a different design for a lead acid battery and it charges faster and lasts longer in extreme conditions. They do cost a little more than the standard 12v.
