Ghost of overcharging past

My Lyriq's charge limit is set to 85%, but recently I left plugged in without driving for three days. Opened the app today and saw that the battery's at 100%, does it still continue to charge even if I set the charging limit? Or am I accidentally summoning the Ghost of overcharging past? Is this normal and could leaving it plugged in too long be the trigger?

When an EV is left plugged in for an extended period, the battery management system may initiate a cell balancing process. A full charge to 100% is sometimes required for the system to equalize all the battery cells properly. It's a normal maintenance function for battery health and is not a continuous overcharge. Has the car repeated a charge cycle to 100% on other occasions? You can also check your charge settings to ensure a 1 time full charge wasn't accidentally enabled.

It is safe to charge to 100% occasionally and is required to balance the cells especially initially when you buy an EV new. Charging to 100% is really not required that often after the first time you do it, if your battery is an NMC (NCM), which the Lyric is. You probably do not need to charge to 100% more than once every 2 months or so to balance the cells. However, for longer life it's best not to charge the battery to 100% very often unless you need to. Also, if you charge to 100% it is best to use the car as soon as possible after reaching 100%, because the longer you leave it at 100% the more you reduce the range/life of the battery, especially in hot weather.

Charging to 100% once in a while is safe and actually helps with cell balancing, which keeps the battery performing well over time. The Lyriq uses GM's Ultium battery system, which has built in protections to manage heat and voltage stress during charging. For daily use, Cadillac recommends setting the charge limit to around 80% to reduce wear and extend battery life. If you do hit 100%, it's best to drive soon after instead of letting the car sit fully charged, esp in hot weather. Has your Lyriq ever charged to full more than once without you adjusting the settings or was this a 1 time thing?
